Recognizing and treating venous diseases at an early stage
Diseased veins can be easily recognized by the visual change in the appearance of the skin. In most cases, it is not the diseased vein itself that is visible, but a superficial dilated skin vein that catches the patient’s eye. It is therefore not difficult to become aware of a possible vein disease. This is usually referred to as varicose veins or varices, i.e. dilated veins. If varicosis is very pronounced, the varicose veins and veins can be seen particularly clearly, as the veins have become very dilated. There are various treatment options for surgically removing the veins.
Causes of venous diseases
Vein diseases have been on the rise for some time, which is partly due to the fact that more and more people are working in a sitting position. This is because sitting for long periods of time, but also standing for long periods of time, can promote diseases of the veins and thus promote varicose veins and varicose veins. Incidentally, this affects women and men equally.
Taking medication and predisposition are also sometimes reasons for cramps and thromboses as well as unsightly spider veins, which can increase significantly, especially with age. Older patients in particular complain about pathologically altered veins, but this does not mean that younger people are spared.
Classic symptoms of venous diseases
Sick veins often lead to discomfort in the legs, which can be very distressing for those affected. Heavy legs in particular are very annoying in everyday life and severely restrict well-being. Cramps occur more frequently and swelling of the legs can also occur, which can be particularly annoying during exercise or sport.
However, patients who suffer from venous disease often complain primarily about the visual changes to their legs caused by clearly visible varicose veins. However, significantly smaller, pathologically altered skin veins, such as classic spider veins, are also perceived as a visual restriction. Especially if you want to wear shorts or dresses in summer. Nevertheless, there are good treatment options for removing such altered veins and thus eliminating the blemish. Fortunately, modern vein surgery offers simple and quick therapies that have proven to be effective. We will be happy to tell you more about them.
Surgical treatment is determined on a patient-by-patient basis and discussed in detail with the patient beforehand. An outpatient procedure with follow-up care is often sufficient. How extensive this is depends on the type of skin change.
Vein surgery - individual therapies and treatments
In vein surgery, there are various ways and means of treating vein diseases and providing patients with relief. Open and minimally invasive surgical options for vein diseases play a particularly important role and are used for certain diseases and symptoms.
In the minimally invasive variant, for example, a probe is inserted into the diseased vein to enable the vein to be closed using radiofrequency (RFITT). This procedure is also suitable for removing and treating superficial, troublesome skin veins.
The open variant, on the other hand, involves an intervention via two skin incisions to remove the diseased vein. Visible unsightly skin veins such as spider veins can also be removed in this way.
In principle, the type of treatment is determined by the surgeon and discussed with the patient following a preliminary examination and medical assessment. Treatment approaches can therefore vary greatly from patient to patient.
